Medical Radiation Dosimetry Course

The DTU Nutech "Medical Radiation Dosimetry Course" provides the theoretical and metrological background for measurement of radiation doses. The emphasis in the course is on radiotherapy dosimetry, but  special sessions are devoted to dosimetry in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine. The five-day intensive course is based on the new textbook "Fundamentals of Ionizing Radiation Dosimetry" by Andreo, Burns, Nahum, Seuntjens and Attix. The course is located at DTU's Risø campus near Roskilde, Denmark.

The key elements in the course are:

(1) Interaction between radiation and matter

(2) Monte Carlo calculation of radiation transport (EGSnrc)

(3) Cavity theory

(4) Radiation detection techniques

(5) Protocols for high-energy x-ray and electron dosimetry with ion chambers (TRS-398)

(6) Proton dosimetry physics

(7) Metrology (traceability and uncertainty)

The course will be presented by researchers and physicists from the DTU Nutech (Center for Nuclear Technologies).

Lecturers: Bent Lauritzen, Claus E. Andersen, Lars Lindvold, Mark Bailey, and Mikael Jensen.

Intended audience: Hospital physicists who are still undergoing training and graduate students (physics or engineering).
